Make Tag Teams Great Again
The Motor City Machine Guns are the champs and a legit true tag team! The surprise victory last week over GOD (another legit tag team) is the start in what I hope is a new era, an era where true tag teams emerge once again.
The reemergence of the War Raiders has further enriched the tag team roster. They are NO JOKE and it wouldn't surprise me to see them start to dominate. Additionally, the Street Profits continue to showcase their incredible potential, bringing charisma and talent that could elevate them to the top of the tag team hierarchy if Triple H finally decides to pull that trigger.
However, a recurring trend has been the pairing of superstars who shine as singles competitors but fail to create a cohesive tag team. While the chemistry between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn has provided entertainment, their partnership often feels more like a convenience than a dedicated tag team. Similarly, Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso's title reign will be remembered more for a drunk post scrum interview. Even the recent alignment of Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair, while understandable, feels like it’s time for them to split. No doubt Jade will be an incredible heel, while Bianca goes back immediately as the EST and possibly the top female in the whole company.
Thank you for the few and proud tag teams currently on the roster like #DIY, The Authors of Pain (AOP), The New Day, The Creed Brothers, and Pretty Deadly. These are true tag team partners bound together for better or worse and I'm all for it.
I'm done with the Judgment Day gimmick with Finn Balor and JD McDonagh. Let’s unleash Demon Finn and watch this guy show his true potential as legitmate champion.
Let's not forget all the tag teams in the womens divison though, oh wait- there's like two?
The Unholy Union are making strides, but there’s still a lack of depth. Sure, we can mention the Kabuki Warriors, but they're more a trios with Damage Cntrl. Katana Chance and Kayden Carter are a tag team but do they even have a name? I heard it's the Twinkle Twins? Chelsea and Piper are great together but they both would do well as single competitors. I might be biased as a self proclaimed Chelsea Green mark but she deserves real conversation for a belt.
Fatal Influence is cool, but they don't have trios championships in the big leagues. Speaking of NXT I like a couple of tag teams like The Good Brothers and Hank and Tank. Both have a legit tag team feel.
It's time WWE. It's time to make Tag Teams great again, we've been patiently waiting.
