Jim Johnston’s Unemployment Is a National Tragedy

Jim Johnston’s Unemployment Is a National Tragedy

If you aren’t deaf or seven years old, then you’ve likely heard of the legend known as Jim Johnston. The fact that no major wrestling organization has “Ol’ Jim Jim” on the payroll, cooking up bangers in 2024, is a disgrace. Hunter and Tony Khan should be sent to federal prison for robbing wrestling fans of such musical excellence. Johnston is behind about 90% of the greatest theme songs to ever grace our ears. He’s crafted iconic themes for Stone Cold, The Rock, The Undertaker, Orton, DX—you name it. The guy even made midcarders feel like they mattered through his music!

Do yourself a favor and listen to the theme song he created for the controversial character Eugene. There’s no reason it should have hit that hard, but it did. Every theme he wrote (yes, even Eugene’s) perfectly captured the aura of the wrestler he created it for. Need a theme for an undead Undertaker? He remixed a funeral parlor tune. A tag team from the streets of Brooklyn, Cryme Tyme? He wrote a killer 16 bars and produced a beat that hit just right.

The man is a legend, and my words will never do him justice. Go listen to a few of his themes and tell me I’m wrong. Whoever starts a petition to get him hired somewhere—just know I’ll be the first to sign it.
