Lyra Valkyria is the Inaugural WWE Women's Intercontinental Champion!

Dakota Kai gives respect and raises Lyra's arm in their historic IC title match!

As we all know, Women's wrestling has come a long way. Its gone from bra and panties matches to match of the year candidates. It's gone from only one women's championship to multiple titles to reward a generation of wrestlers that are more talented than ever before (don't get it twisted though, we always have to remember the pioneers that paved the way). The main roster had yet another milestone on the second Netflix episode of Monday Night Raw, when Lyra Valkyria defeated Dakota Kai to become the first ever women's IC champion.

Kai was a sentimental favorite due to the work she's put in over the years and being a well known NXT alum. However, Lyra has ascended on the main roster since her takeover loss to Roxanne Perez. There's no doubt that she will be a great champion. It should be interesting to see who else in the mid-card steps up to make the IC (and US) titles as viable as ever.

For those that can remember, there was a time where the mid-card titles were significant and catapulted wrestlers who were great workers, but needed a stepping stone, to the next level. There's no question this generation of women are up to the task of raising the bar even higher.
